Welcome to week 4 and the first round of teams on their bye week. Unfortunately one of those teams being the Colts (the Steelers being the other) and sleeper sensation Donnie Avery, means I can’t boost our favorite sleeper of the year. I realize T.Y. Hilton tried to steal the lime light last week but since Austin Collie’s season ending injury, I’ll bid farewell to Thank You Hilton (his real first name!). Donnie is the man in Indy. Anyway, let’s get it on with this week’s sleepers:
Shaun Draughn – RB/DEN vs Chargers
We’re starting big with Draughn as this week’s super undercover sleeper. RB Peyton Hillis may miss this weeks home game vs the Chargers, and Dexter McCluster will too. Jamaal Charles is coming off an all world game last week, and Draughn will most likely get in on this weeks action. Last week after Hillis went down, Draughn had 7 carries and 3 catches. The Chargers haven’t been stellar against the run, and Draughn could be a sneaky play this week if you need a RB or flex spot to fill.
Cedric Benson – RB/G.B. vs Saints
Benson may not be as sneaky of a sleeper pick as Draughn but in most leagues he’s not an automatic start. He has locked up the RB spot in Green Bay though, and this week brings the struggling Saints to Lambeau Field. New Orleans have given up the most fantasy points to RB’s this season. There really isn’t much more you need to say about this one. Get him in.
Fred Davis – TE/WAS @ Buccaneers
Early on this year, Davis was lost in the RGIII revamped Redskins offense. It seems the ‘Skins have made an effort to get him back in the game plan and it worked out great for Davis as he caught 7 balls for 90 yards. This week is another favorable matchup against a Bucs pass defense that has given up a ton of yards to opposing passing offenses. Look for another multi catch game for Davis this week.
Donald Jones – WR/BUF vs Patriots
Jones stepped up as the 2nd WR in Buffalo when David Nelson’s season ended. He’s yet to shine this season, but in week 4 the Patriots come to Buffalo where the Bills tend to play New England pretty tough. Stevie Johnson will get the attention, while Jones should get a great chance to have his break out game against a pass defense that was beaten badly Sunday night vs the Ravens.
Arizona Cardinals – DEF/ARZ vs Miami
So far the Cardinals defense has been tough as nails. The offense is doing just enough to win games, but the defense is the real reason why the Cardinals are undefeated in 2012. The Arizona defense has given up a meager 40 points all season, intercepting 2 balls, recovering 4 fumbles, blocking 2 kicks and scoring a td. Week 4 brings a beaten 1-2 Dolphins team who may be without it’s only glimmer of hope in Reggie Bush. Look for the Cards defense to shut Miami down at home.
sleepers plus: S.Hill - QB/DET vs MIN, G.Tate - WR/SEA @ STL, M.Manningham – WR/S.F. @ NYJ
